EYING THE PRIZE - 2004 GMC Tournament:

DAN DeANDREA, SOUTH PLAINFIELD: If DeAndrea wasn't a legit contender to win the GMCT before last week, he became one on Thursday when he shot a par 36, outdueling Lim in a dual match win over Piscataway.

One of four seniors on the GMC White Division championship team, DeAndrea and Guy Severini shared season honors with a 6-over par average this spring.

COACHING THE RIGHT WAY: Ever wonder why South Plainfield's scores have been so eratic this season? Well, credit Tigers coach Mike Kavka for shuttling in as many kids as possible into his lineup each day. If his team goes into a match as a heavy favorite, Kavka usually inserts a JV kid or two, wanting to give as many golfers the experience of competing at the varsity level as possible.

South Plainfield, the co-leader with Colonia in the GMC White Division, has had 13 different golfers factor in varsity matches this spring. The Tigers' scores have fluctuated from a season-best 14-over in a 155-158 loss to state-power Westfield to 47-over in a 179-201 win against Spotswood.
