South Plainfield Open

Hosted by the

SOUTH PLAINFIELD HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM

Sponsored by the

SOUTH PLAINFIELD GOLF ASSOCIATION

August 11, 1999 - South Plainfield

Against a field of 170 golfers, the largest South Plainfield Open to date, local resident KEVIN CAMPANA took first place at this year's tournament with a 1 under par gross score of 71, at the near by par 72 Bunker Hill Golf Course.  KUMI FUJII won the women's division with a gross score of 82.

This was the 5th annual South Plainfield Open, a fund raising event sponsored by the South Plainfield Golf Association, for the benefit of the South Plainfield High School Golf Team.  This event has doubled in size since its inauguration 5 years ago.

Other winners this year included BILL WHITE with the low men's net score of 71, and VERA SHEREYKO with the low women's net score of 74.  The winning team score came from the foursome of KEVIN CAMPANA (71), JIMMY PAINTER (77), STEVE QUAGLIERO (83), and PAT DEVANY (88).  There were also special awards given to TONY GRZAN, who pounded the Men's Longest Drive.  JOYCE ROSE hit the women's Longest Drive.  LINDA REAGAN earned Closest to the Pin.

No one was able to make a hole-in-one to win the 1999 Ford Explorer sponsored by Liccardi Ford.  But separate drawings did award a free vacation and golf for 4 in Myrtle Beach, and a free round of golf for 4 to White Beeches Golf & Country Club.

Coach Mike Kavka thanked everyone who participated in the event, particularly the local businesses and sponsors who helped make this event a success.
